Event Description

IR Employment Update

This quarter's Briefing will focus on the contemporary industrial relations (IR) landscape here in Australia - what's on the cards following the federal election, the ever-changing field of enterprise bargaining, and an update on some significant law cases.

Our highly experienced expert team will share their best practice knowledge, insights and advice on the topics below, then sit on a panel for the audience Q&A at the end, facilitated by our MC, Ryan Martin, Manager Workplace Relations here at CCIWA.

This popular event series offers a great opportunity to ask any questions you have and network with other HR/IR people in Perth. Tea/coffee and morning tea is included, and $2 from each ticket sale will be donated to the Cancer Council WA.

Our expert CCIWA team will speak on:

Industrial Relations landscape post-election
Paul Moss - Principal Workplace Relations Consultant
In this session Paul will give an overview of the landscape following the election and help to address some of the uncertainty around industrial relations and safety laws going forward. Paul will take you through the current state of play in what legislative changes are already on the cards, and what further changes the political parties will be likely to pursue post-election.

Enterprise Agreements update
Laura Smith - Workplace Relations Lawyer (bio here)
Whilst there have been no wholesale changes to the agreement making process in the Fair Work Act 2009 in recent years, bargaining continues to be an ever changing field. Laura will take you through recent trends and case law developments in this space, including the practical implications for employers seeking to make an enterprise agreement.

Significant case law update
Andjelika Cabassi - Senior Employee Relations Advisor (bio here)
Andjelika will look at the year in review to provide an update on some significant cases from 2018 and 2019 and the impact they may have for businesses going forward. These developments are critical to be aware of as they can have important legal ramifications for your business. Andjelika will explain the key issues arising from these decisions of the industrial courts and tribunals and highlight their approach to some of the unique problems faced by businesses in the area of human resources.
